With a fine colonial heritage, Andean scenery and unspoiled Amazon rainforest a trip to Ecuador has all the ingredients to give you a flavour of South America, but a week in the Galapagos Islands will bring you literally face to face with some of the planet’s most remarkable wildlife.
Highlights: Quito – Amazon Rainforest – Galapagos Islands
For further information about the range of Galapagos cruises and the choice of hotels and jungle lodges, please contact us. We can adapt this itinerary to include the Devil’s Nose, Ingapirca and Cuenca or extend the itinerary to include a relaxing stay at a hacienda, time to explore the cloudforest or simply to spend a few days at a hotel in the Galapagos after your cruise.
Arrive in to Quito and transfer from the airport to your hotel. In the afternoon enjoy a tour of the city, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your city tour will take in the key highlights of the city, including the Plaza de la Independencia and the Basilica with its impressive gargoyles.
Day at leisure in Quito. Please let us know if you would like us to book any additional excursions, for example a trip to the Equator monument and/or on the cable car (Teleferico) for spectacular views of the city. Other possibilities include a visit to the pre-Inca site of the Quitus people.
Transfer to the airport for your flight into the Oriente. There are various gateways into the Amazon jungle (such as Coca and Lago Agrio) depending on the lodge you are staying at.
Excursions in the jungle. These will usually be a combination of river and land excursions, bird-watching tours, alligator-spotting and keeping your eyes peeled for monkeys.
Fly from Quito to the Galapagos Islands. We book a range of Galapagos cruises varying from luxury vessels made for up to 100 passengers to smaller yachts and catamarans with just 8 cabins and up to 16 passengers.
Sailing the Galpagos Islands. Marvel at The Galápagos’ incredible natural diversity and see birds, animals, and plant life here that you would not see elsewhere, such as the famous Blue-footed boobies.
The above sample Ecuador and Galapagos holiday can be varied in any way you choose to suit your exact requirements so give us a call now on 01932 424252 to discuss any modifications.
Ecuador has a wide range of types & styles of hotels, at a variety of price-points to suit all budgets. Similarly, we offer a range of Galapagos cruises from small boats with perhaps 8 to 20 cabins to luxurious ships with up to 50 cabins, offering a choice of cabin types (according to deck, size of cabin and facilities such as panoramic windows rather than a porthole). Larger boats are more spacious and tend to be more stable in the water. They are also faster and therefore offer some of the most extensive itineraries around the Galapagos Archipelago.
Please chat to one of our Travel Consultants to get informed advice as to which hotels and Galapagos cruise ships they would suggest for your tailor-made Ecuador and Galapagos holiday.
The best time of the year for visiting the Galapagos Islands is December to March, when the weather is warmest and the sea is calmest. September-October is best avoided.
