This classic combination takes in Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands. The itinerary includes a few days in Cuzco, the Sacred Valley and Quito as well as a week’s wildlife cruise of the Galapagos archipelago .

ITINERARY:

DAY 1:

Fly to Lima. On arrival you will be met and driven to your hotel. Lima is our gateway to the marvels of Peru so you won’t have much time to explore the city.

DAY 2:

Transfer to the airport in time for to catch your flight east to Cuzco. On arrival you will be met and driven to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. Afternoon tour of Ollantaytambo.

DAY 3:

Morning excursion to the salt pools at Maras which have been used since pre-Inca times. We would be delighted to discuss other excursions and activities such as local markets, a zipwire adrenaline experience or a visit to one of the social projects supported by the Latin America Travel Association (LATA) Foundation.

DAY 4:

A full-day tour to Machu Picchu travelling by train from Ollanta station to Aguas Calientes and by bus to the Inca citadel. Guided tour of the site. Overnight at a hotel in the local village or at the only hotel next to the ruins. We can also arrange a trek of the last part of the traditional Inca Trail to arrive at Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate.

DAY 5:

Morning at leisure to return to Machu Picchu or to explore the market in the local village. Afternoon train back to the Sacred Valley, before your onward transfer by road to your hotel in Cuzco. Did you know that Cuzco is a declared UNESCO World Heritage Site?

DAY 6:

Half-day guided tour of the capital of the Inca empire, exploring the wonders of Cuzco, including the amazing fortress of Sacsayhuaman overlooking the city. Free afternoon for your own activities, such as cooking classes, mountain-biking, riding or perhaps a show.

DAY 7:

Fly from Cuzco to Lima and onward to Quito in Ecuador. You will be met on arrival and driven to your hotel.  The colonial heart of the city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has undergone considerable restoration over the last 20 years.

DAY 8:

City tour of Quito, taking in in the key highlights of the city, visiting the Plaza de la Independencia and the Basilica with its impressive gargoyles. Afternoon at leisure for an optional tour to the Equator monument.

DAY 9:

Fly from Quito to the Galapagos Islands to board your cruise. We book a range of cruises from luxury vessels with a good choice of cabins and decks to smaller yachts, catamarans and boats.

DAYS 10-15:

Sailing the Galapagos Islands. If applicable, we can also arrange yacht charters if you wish to book your own boat for a special event or family holiday.

DAY 16:

Disembark your cruise and return to Quito where you will be met at the airport and driven to your hotel for your final night.

DAY 17:

Transfer from your hotel to Quito International Airport in time to check-in for your transatlantic flights home.

Galapagos Cruises

We offer a range of Galapagos cruises from small boats with perhaps 8 to 20 cabins to luxurious ships with up to 50 cabin, offering a choice of cabin types (according to deck, size of cabin and facilities such as panoramic windows rather than a porthole). Larger boats are more spacious and tend to be more stable in the water. They are also faster and therefore offer some of the most  extensive itineraries around the Galapagos Archipelago.

The best time of the year for visiting the Galapagos Islands is December to March, when the weather is warmest and the sea is calmest. September-October is best avoided.
